Forget about the Green Berets or Marines, because Sony is looking to recruit a crack team of counter-piracy experts. Yes, the corporate suits and ties will likely be tasked with executing legal campaigns (read blitzkrieg) against jailbreakers, modders and hackers.
According to IGN, Sony recently placed job ads seeking staff to “develop and implement an anti-piracy program.”
Interestingly enough, the ads – which were plastered across the company’s recruitment page – have since been removed without explanation.
Still, we do know that any potential member of the team will be expected to to “collaborate with other anti-piracy organizations, including those of affiliated Sony Computer Entertainment companies, Sony Corporation and the videogame industry’s trade association, the Entertainment Software Association.”
Other responsibilities include “overseeing anti-piracy civil lawsuits and providing support to law enforcement and intellectual property agencies on behalf of SCEA.”
It should be noted that Sony has recently stepped up its war against hackers, modders and jailbreakers by suing George Hotz (geohot) in a San Francisco court and leading a police raid against graf_chokolo in Germany.
The Japanese-based company also issued a stern statement warning PS3 owners against using modded consoles or pirated software.
“Circumvention devices and game piracy damage our industry and can potentially injure the online experience for you, our loyal PlayStation customers, via hacks and cheats.
“By identifying PlayStation 3 systems that breach our guidelines and terminating their ability to connect to PlayStation Network, we are protecting our business and preserving the honest gameplay experiences that you expect and deserve.”
