Nokia throws toys out of LCD pram

Giant Finnish phone giant Nokia is taking legal action against LG Display, Sharp, Samsung, Hitachi and Chunghwa – accusing them of a cartel to fix prices on LCD displays.

A case started in a California district court on 25 November, with pleaders for Nokia alleging they, and a bunch of others too, engaged in an illegal conspiracy to keep the prices of displays high.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Nokia said it suffered damages because of the alleged cartel, and it wants money out of the defendants in the case.

Last year, the Justice Department levied a fine on LCD manufacturers for price fixing, and three of the defendants – LG Display, Sharp and Chunghwa – pleaded guilty. Samsung cooperated with the court, said the WSJ, and didn’t have its knuckles rapped.
