Elan Microelectronics demands iPad ban

A Taiwanese company has demanded that the US International Trade Commission (ITC) impose a ban on the import and sale of certain Apple products, including the long-awaited iPad tablet.

“Elan Microelectronics’ complaint filed yesterday with the US International Trade Commission in Washington claims Apple ‘knowingly and deliberately’ used Elan’s technology, while continuing to introduce infringing products. The petition also seeks to ban imports of the iPhone and iPod Touch products,” wrote Bloomberg’s Tim Culpan.

“Apple’s MacBook and Magic Mouse also use technology which infringes an Elan patent for detecting the simultaneous presence of two or more fingers, according to the filing.”

It should be noted that Elan’s latest filing with the ITC comes just weeks after the company lodged a complaint against Taiwan’s HTC Corp over allegedly breached patents.
