Another Microsoft bigwig jumps ship

Oh, my. Another Microsoft bigwig has jumped off the rapidly sinking ship. Is this becoming a trend?

Does it have anything to do with the imminent flop and demise of the woefully inadequate Windows Phone 7?

Or was the decision linked to professional differences with Steve “Balmy” Ballmer?

While we can only speculate about the cause, we do know that Redmond’s Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie is the third senior exec to announce his resignation in less than five months.

That’s right, folks. Number three.

As Bloomberg notes, Ozzie’s abrupt departure follows the May abdication of entertainment chief Robbie Bach and Office division head Stephen Elop’s surprise defection to Nokia.

“Ballmer [really] needs to demonstrate that he can maintain a deep bench of potential successors,” Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg told Bloomberg.

“When a manager fires a person or a person departs it’s one thing, but when multiple people depart from a given manager, at a certain point it raises questions on the manager.

“And [so] once again, there’s [yet another] empty seat at Ballmer’s table.”
