A survey of more than 2,000 people in the UK reveals that 91 percent of respondents would never pay for news online and 90 percent would be unwilling to pay for news analysis. A similar survey carried out a few weeks ago found that just five per cent of readers were willing to pay for online news.
While publishers run around like headless chickens trying to work out exactly how the hell they can earn a living from online content, they’re blindly attempting to cripple news aggregation sites like NewsNow in the mistaken belief that they are somehow stealing their content.
What is plain for all but the newspaper publishers to see is that absolutely no one has a reliable model for generating cash from online news.

In the latest audience research, of those aged 16 to 24, 86 percent say they would never pay for news online, while in the 45 to 54 age sectors, 96 percent said they would not pay, according to UK trade mag MediaWeek.
The magazine adds that only five percent of UK consumers would be happy to pay for online news content, while a paltry four percent would be prepared to take out a subscription for online news content.
MediaWeek also points out that entertainment download services appear to be the most acceptable form of paid-for online media, with 49 percent willing to pay for music downloads, and 43 percent for online TV content.
