Bethesda says it won’t be offering a public demo for the long-awaited Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – as the game is simply too big to present in microcosm format.
“No, we won’t be doing a demo,” Bethesda producer Craig Lafferty told GamePlanet.
“For a game of this size and complexity it’s really hard to do a demo the represents the game truly. And it would have to be a gigantic demo. So we won’t be doing a demo.”
Foregoing a demo is just fine with me, because I already know Skyrim is going to be one of the best titles of the year. Hell, why stop at a year? Maybe even the next two or three.
Seriously, we all know Oblivion is still getting some serious gaming time from die-hard players, even though it was released some 5 years ago, way back in 2006.
OK, I admit some Elder Scroll fanbois were unhappy with Oblivion as they couldn’t help but reminisce about the glory days of Morrowind, but hey, I liked them all.
And I’m really looking forward to Skyrim, because, let’s face it, most of the games out there today really suck and have very little to offer.
Evolution, not revolution is how the biz works today. Sadly, the days of truly immersive games are long gone.
IMHO, eye candy (however incredible) is a poor substitute for a good storyline, realistic interaction and a truly believable environment.
But hey, I’m not stressing at all, because Bethesda’s Skyrim is going to rock so hard it’ll hurt. Now, where did I put that copy of Golden Axe?
Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim will launch on November 11, 2011.
