The new Attack the Block trailer will hit theaters this weekend. Please note this is the red band trailer, so it may not be appropriate for children.
The upcoming startle-flick is an alien invasion thriller from the producers ofShaun of the Dead, including Edgar Wright, who also directedScott Pilgrim vs. the World and co-wrote the upcoming The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.
Looks like most of the humor in Attack the Block is focused on South London youth.
Still, the trailer has an urban feel to it, which is likely universal, and, if nothing else, it gives us a different look at the idea of the ragtag kids as film heros.
These kids aren’t wholesome, fresh-faced youths with a lot of promise, and some awkward lessons to learn.
They are true toughs, violent and deplorable, who must overcome their selfish and thuggish ways to defend their block, and the world, from an otherwise stealthy alien invasion.
The official synopsis is this:
The film follows a gang of tough inner-city kids who rob Sam (Whittaker) as she is walking home in a scary South London tower block. She flees when the gang is attacked by a small alien creature which falls from the sky. While Sam and the police hunt for the gang, a second wave of creatures falls. The gang grabs weapons, mount bikes, and set out to defend their turf. But this time, the creatures are much bigger. Savage and bestial, nothing will stand in their way. And the bunch of no-hope kids who just attacked Sam are about to become her only hope.
Attack the Block is slated for theatrical release on July 29th in select cities only, but if the initial response is positive, it will likely find a wider release.
The film stars Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, Luke Treadaway, Flaminia Cinque, Joey Ansah, Lee Nicholas Harris and Chris Wilson.
