The phone that T-Mobile claims is the “most powerful smartphone” will be hitting stores in just a couple weeks.
The HTC Sensation has been slated for a June 15 release date. It will be available at all T-Mobile Store locations on that date, as well as select third-party electronics stores.
It is also possible that Walmart will receive the device a bit early, with the discount retailer reported to begin selling it on June 12.
The Sensation comes with Android 2.3 (“Gingerbread”) pre-installed, as well as a powerful 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdraggon processor. It packs a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, as well as an 8 MP rear-facing camera with the ability to record 1080p high definition video.
There’s also a lower-resolution front-facing camera for video chatting.
The phone is the spiritual successor to T-Mobile’s MyTouch 4G, though some critics have been blasting the carrier’s judicious use of the term “4G.”
Because its network is not nearly as robust or powerful as those of other networks like Sprint or Verizon, some don’t consider T-Mobile’s new infrastructure as a true ‘4G’ standard.
Nevertheless, the phone is called the Sensation 4G, and it does have a lot of stuff under the hood to make it a formidable phone. When it comes out to the carrier’s retail locations later this month, customers will be able to buy it for $250 with a new two-year service agreement. There’s also a $50 mail-in rebate, bringing the final price down to $200.
