Facebook is reportedly testing a new feature which allows users to earn credits for watching video ads.
A company rep told TG Daily the pilot program offers players of certain Facebook games the opportunity to watch a short sponsored video in exchange for a single FB credit.
In Facebook virtual currency, each credit is worth around 10 cents and can be redeemed when making another in-Facebook purchase like a virtual good within a game or a purchase through Facebook Deals.
The program is an extension of Facebook Credits offered through TrialPay.
The new initiative is designed to give developers a way to monetize games beyond selling in-game virtual goods as well as to promote Facebook Credits.
“Like other offers in the Facebook Credits ecosystem, we are working with TrialPay on this test.
“The videos themselves will be sold by ShareThrough, Epic Social, SocialVibe and Supersonic Ads,” added the rep.
As noted above, the pilot program is part of Facebook’s strategy to leverage the popularity of the social networking site for monetization beyond click ads.
