Old-school players may recall Warlords as one of the most addicting four-player Atari games ever created, and now it’s getting the modern-day respect it deserves with a 21st century remake heading to the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Originally released in the 1980s, Warlords was originally sort of like a multiplayer Arkanoid game where players shot a ball at each other’s forts, trying to take it out one piece at a time.
For the new reimagining of the title, there will be a mix of “arcade action … with a bold and vibrant visual style coupled with robust strategic gameplay,” according to Atari CEO Jim Wilson.
It will be playable for up to four players, just like the classic version, but this time it’ll be available online. Multiple different game modes are also up for grabs, including a cooperative “siege” mode, team-based 2v2 battles, and the traditional free-for-all fights.
The new version will be available later this year.
