AT&T adoptee T-Mobile has announced a new phone – dubbed “G2x” – designed specifically for gaming.
During a press conference at CTIA, T-Mobile rep Andrew Sherrard said: “More [people] are turning to their smartphones to stay entertained wherever they are with access to their favorite video games, TV programs, and more.
“By combining the latest hardware and preloaded content with our 4G network and the power of the dual-core processor, the G2x offers [a] mobile gaming and entertainment experience.”
T-Mobile’s 4G LG G2x is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor with a 1Ghz dual-core CPU running on Android 2.2. The phone boasts a front-facing 1.3 MP camera and a 8 MP rear-facing camera to record in HD.
The LG G2x also comes preloaded with games such as Need for Speed SHIFT HD, a demo of Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, and applications like DTS Ultra Mobile for surround sound, T-Mobile TV (which provides live/ on-demand TV) and apps for browsing magazines or newspapers.
In addition, T-Mobile offers a video chat solution like the iPhone called T-Mobile Video Chat powered by Qik.
What’s really cool about the phone is that it is DLNA compatible and hooks up to a TV for HDMI mirroring. That, plus an accelerator and gyro sensor, makes the gaming experience on the G2x even more awesome.
T-Mobile did not announce exactly when the phone will be available or how much it will cost, but sources says it will be available in late spring.
