Of the thousands of people who pre-ordered the hotly anticipated Droid X, a little over 100 got theirs a bit early. Was it an accident or an intentional ploy to get some headlines?
Either way, 170 units were shipped out early to customers. Verizon confirmed the number after forum posts and reports started popping up from people saying they got their phone ahead of the July 15 launch.
Those lucky people can dial *228 on their phone or log online to activate it, while everyone else still has to wait.
The Droid X is the successor to the very successful Motorola Droid, the top-selling Android phone and the second best-selling phone in the entire country.
With 8 GB of internal storage, an 8 MP camera, and a 1 GHz processor, the Droid X runs on Android 2.1 and should be getting the 2.2 update soon. It is priced at $200 after a 2-year contract subsidy and a $100 mail-in rebate.
