Chicago (IL) – Apple has apparently expressed interest in entering the game console market.
“There’s also a new entrant in the business, Apple, with the iPhone. And we don’t think they will stop there,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in a conference call reported by Kotaku. According to Guillemot, the Apple TV set-top-box, along with other devices, could provide a new range of console platforms as the product becomes “more powerful.”
“What we see for the future is there will also be a big announcement in interfaces,” explained Guillemot. “It will not only happen in consoles but also happen on those TV boxes as well.”
Guillemot noted there was a “lot of energy” being devoted to improving the current generation of gaming systems and added that Ubisoft was already “working on some of the elements that will appeal in the next generation.”
Meanwhile, Electronic Arts has announced six new game titles for the iPhone and iPod Touch, including:
- Star Trek
- American Idol
- Trivial Pursuit
- Lemonade Tycoon
- Pandemonium!
- Anytime Pool
“EA Mobile games have consistently been top performers in the App Store’s Top Paid rankings,” said Adam Sussman, an EA VP. “We are excited to expand our offerings to include these six new games, joining our all-time top-selling apps, including Monopoly Here & Now: World Edition, Tetris and the recently released Need for Speed Undercover and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.”
