When Peter Jackson finished up the first Lord of the Rings trilogy, there were marathons in theaters showing all three movies back to back, which took over nine hours to watch from beginning to end. Even at home that would be hard for me to do, but there are fans that sat it out and enjoyed the entire epic, much like fans sat through all five Planet of the Apes movies in a row back in the ‘70’s.
Now there’s going to be a Marvel marathon leading up to the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1. Rolling Stone tells us you can watch eleven “Marvelverse” movies before finally diving into the most awaited superhero movie of the year.
The Ultimate Marvel Movie Marathon begins on April 29, starting with Iron Man, and it will run in order of release for twenty-seven, count ‘em, twenty-seven hours. This marathon will be playing at select AMC and Regal Cinemas for those who are ready to get Marveled out.
But if you don’t have the free time, or a spare rubber donut to sit on, you can watch a double bill of the first and second Avengers at select Cinemark theaters, and Rolling Stone feels this is a “less ambitious (or more sane)” choice. But if you’re ready to go the distance, the first movie, Iron Man, will start at 6:00 P.M., and Age of Ultron will begin the following day at 7:00 P.M., with The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain American, and Iron Man movies, along with Guardians of the Galaxy, playing in-between.
