LG has debuted its very first smartphone powered by Mozilla’s Firefox operating system (OS).
Dubbed the LG Fireweb, the handset will be available over the next few weeks from wireless carrier Telefonica.
The device is built around entry-level hardware; however as Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, it does offer a few features that help distinguish it from the ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire, including a 5MP camera with auto-focus and an LED flash.
“Those features aren’t exactly hard to find on Android, iOS, or Windows Phone devices, but they do help the Fireweb stand out a bit,” Linder explained.
Additional key specs include a 4-inch, 480 x 320 pixel display, 1 GHz processor, 2GB of storage, 802.11b/g/n WiFi. The LG Fireweb also arrives pre-loaded with a number of apps including Facebook and Cut the Rope.
Mozilla’s Firefox OS is a web-centric mobile operating system designed to run apps written in HTML5, JavaScript and other web-oriented technologies.
Smartphones loaded with Firefox OS typically ship with basic apps such as a web browser, map, calendar and Mozilla’s Firefox Marketplace app store.
