Tea Shop & Film Company has released a trailer for its upcoming zombie comedy.
The zombie comedy has been a popular genre since the defining Shaun of the Dead nearly a decade ago, each film with its own gimmick. In Cockneys Vs. Zombies it’s ornery seniors. Note that this is the red band trailer, so it’s not appropriate for work or children.
I expect lots of jokes involving old-people acting the way one usually expects young people to act, and more than a few gags reliant upon the similarity of the zombie shamble, and the shuffling walk of a senior.
The film is written by James Moran and Lucas Roche. Roche is well known in Britain as a writer of thrillers, including 2004s’ Dead Man’s Shoes. James Moran is also working on another zombie comedy (zomedy?), this one about a small town attacked by zombies on Christmas Eve, called Silent Night of the Living Dead. That one is still in pre-production.
The official synopsis is very succinct:
A bunch of eastenders fight their way out of a zombie infested London, lead by an unlikely gang of amateur banks robbers and foul-mouthed plucky pensioners.
Cockneys Vs. Zombies, which stars Michelle Ryan, Honor Blackman, and Harry Treadaway, is slated to hit UK theatres on August 31st, 2012. There is no word yet about a US release.
