20th Century Fox has released a number of new clips for its upcoming alternate history vampire brawler, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
We already mentioned one of them yesterday, but now there are two more new clips from the film to watch.
This first one is just a slightly extended, but still heavily re-cut version of a scene we’ve already gotten a taste of in all of the action-oriented trailers for the film.
The fight scenes remind me of the great time-stretched action scenes of the latest Sherlock Holmes films, which is a style I’m seeing picked up more frequently in fight-centric films – not a trend I take issue with.
The second one is more interesting, as it gives us a real taste of the type of humor that the film will employ:
Clearly the physical feats depicted in the film are unreal, but we already knew that. More interesting here is the dialogue. It boasts a certain intensity, owed in great part to the delivery, but at the same time enjoys a certain wittiness of phrase that pulls little aspects of the myths which already surround the famous president, and give them origin or exemplification. In this case – the importance that honesty supposedly held in Lincoln’s personal philosophy is explained.
When I first heard about Vampire Hunter, I dismissed it out of hand, but the more I hear about the upcoming film, the more it seems like it takes itself as seriously as possible, using the vampires as a device to create a very social, yet character driven feature.
The official synopsis is thus:
Based on the novel of the same name, the film explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.
and here’s the red band (adults only) trailer:
