The first Iron Man, directed by Jon Faverau, was a hell of a flick, one of the best comic adaptations in quite some time.
Robert Downey Jr. did a great job as Tony Stark, and much like Batman, Stark had a great compound full of hi-tech goodies. Although the second Iron Man wasn’t well received, he’s of course coming back in The Avengers, and Iron Man 3 will be ready to roll soon with Lethal Weapon screenwriter Shane Black writing and directing.
Black, who at one point was the highest paid screenwriter in Hollywood, is an interesting choice for Iron Man.
Still, I’m not sure it’s going to totally work because I’m not really crazy about all his work (The Last Boy Scout was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, but I did like The Long Kiss Goodnight), but I’m hoping he’ll be a left of field choice that can possibly redeem the series.
Now comes word that Iron Man 3 could get an early start, and Den of Geek reports part three could get rolling as soon as April, the month before the release of the Avengers, for a May 2013 release, which will also be the same month Star Trek 2 comes out. Still no word who the villain will be, but Moviefone reports the fan favorite everyone’s waiting for is The Mandarin. (Sub-Mariner’s another rumor currently going round the ‘Net.)
And speaking of Stark’s hi-tech goodies, pictures and spec of Tony’s new fly ride just hit Collider. It’s a 2012 Acura with a sticker price of $9 million and STARK 33 license plates. It gets 234 mpg, and according to Collider it has and “info-net sensory tracker system,” as well as a “Invisa-shield exo-system wave modifier,” “self-detonating recon drone,” a bullet proof paint job, a night vision windshield, and bullet proof tires among other goodies.
