LEGO recently released another poster for its upcoming LEGO Lord of the Rings, this time focusing on Aragorn (Strider) and The Return of the King.
The new sets are slated to be based on the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, as well as upcoming two-part Hobbit film.
Although the new art is only an artist’s depiction of the figure, it does help to give a good idea of the style Lego is going for:
We still haven’t seen any of the actual sets or structures those sets will build, which brings up an interesting point. What structures do we imagine when we think of Lord of the Rings?
Quite a bit of the story is filled with characters and battles, so we’ll surely see plenty of figures, weapons, and even vehicles – I’m picturing some Middle Earth siege engines and boats, but what about buildings?
Well, the Shire is obviously an easy one. Think about it: lots of little Hobbit holes, and such, though those are very organic looking in the films, how they will be depicted via LEGOs should be interesting to see.
There are also the Mines of Moria, but that’s an interior space, which LEGO usually isn’t about – though the Bat Cave sets are pretty cool. The City of Minas Tirith would be cool, but it would be a huge set of pieces, I think, on par with the Death Star set or larger. The Tower of Cirith Ungol would be equally large. In fact, most of the iconic places I can think of from the franchise are huge.
I think I’m most looking forward to seeing some of the stuff from The Hobbit, especially Smaug. And yes, I think I could use a nice LEGO dragon on my desk, especially since I’ve already cleared a spot for it.
The first LEGO Lord of the Rings sets should hit shelves during the summer of 2012.
