Invitations have been sent out for an event in New York City, promising that “T-Mobile and Nokia have something exciting in the works.”
Of course, Nokia is working on a huge comeback to the US market after it painfully decided to abandon its long-running Symbian platform and start making phones powered by Microsoft’s Window Phone operating system.
The first such phone has already been released overseas, but questions still remain as to how the new phone partnership will be introduced in the US.
Based on this invitation, though, it looks like there is no doubt that T-Mobile will grab the honors. But it’s still unclear whether this will be the same phone that has already launched in Europe or a brand new model created for the US market.
This could be a significant boost to T-Mobile, which has struggled to stay ahead in the Android and iPhone game, despite being the first carrier to offer an Android phone.
And of course, for Nokia, there is nowhere to go but up in the US, where it used to have a stranglehold on the mobile market but now barely has any presence at all.
This event will also go a long way for T-Mobile to prove, at least for now, it still has its own identity and is not just resting in the shadows while AT&T tries to settle its buyout of the carrier.
