Sony chief executive Nobuyuki Idei put PC makers on notice that under his company’s leadership, “personal broadcasting” will replace the desktop computer model.
“PCs are pretty much confined today and mostly in the future to telephone-based, narrow-band network,” Idei told Comdex attendees. Conversely, PlayStation, is being built to take advantage of broadband connections such as DSL and cable modems.
Idei took the occasion to roll out his concept of “personal broadcasting,” which enables consumers to create video and distribute it via the Internet.
