Thousands of fans braved long lines and cold weather to be among the first to own Sony’s next-generation gaming console.
The highly-anticipated PlayStation2 went on sale in Japan Saturday amid reports that Japanese law prohibits anyone from transporting the device out of the country.
According to Nikkei Online, one reason could be Sony’s unique encryption technology, called Magic Gate, on the PS2’s memory card.
If true, the PlayStation2 would be the first game console to receive such a restriction, the report said.
