Programmers have written a program that allows AOL users to use instant messaging for peer-to-peer, or perhaps buddy-to-buddy, file-sharing. Called Aimster, it gives users search and retrieval functions and takes advantage of AOL’s secure environment where watchdog programs, like Media Enforcer, reportedly can’t track down the names of illegal file-sharers.
