Microsoft Corp.’s most recently released build of its successor to Windows 2000, code-named Whistler, includes anti-piracy code meant to prevent copying of software from one machine to another. The anti-piracy code is labeled “Microsoft Product Activation for Windows” and connects a Windows product key to a specific PC that is activiated by sending installation data to a license clearinghouse. Microsoft will reportedly put similar anti-piracy codes in Office 10 and Visual Studio .Net.
