Thomas Collins, a senior research engineer at Georgia Tech’s College of Computing has spent recent years working with robots and tweaking them to the point where they can now “react to and reason about their environment”. Although at this point in time, these robots only take the form of all-terrain vehicles and trash can figures, researchers are currently “teaching the robots how to search through rooms for biological hazards, and perhaps to find, intercept and destroy a moving enemy tank on the battlefield.”. It’s also interesting to note that “The robots perform the tasks on their own. No one uses a joystick to guide them.”. How long before the scenes depicted in the Terminator series of films become a reality? In our opinion, it could be a lot sooner than you think.
