Logitech has unveiled a new mouse which operates on the basis of touch, rather than standard device buttons.
“People are growing accustomed to using fingertip gestures to navigate on their smartphones and tablets,” explained Logitech rep Todd Walker.
“In fact, for many people these gestures have become second nature. The Logitech Touch Mouse M600 reflects this evolution in how we interact with the digital world and extends to the computer what have become natural, intuitive motions.”
Indeed, the mouse is controlled using gestures that can be executed anywhere on its surface and wherever your fingers rest.
Meaning, you can swipe to scroll, as well as tap to click. In addition, the mouse is loaded with specialized software to facilitate fluid scrolling – similar to how you would interact with a smartphone’s touchscreen.
As expected, the M600 is wireless and uses the Logitech Unifying receiver, which allows more than one peripheral to connect to a single receiver on your computer. That wireless receiver requires a single USB port to connect compatible mice and keyboards.
The mouse employs 2.4 GHz connectivity with a 33-foot range and uses a single AA battery to power the device for three months. If you want more run time, you can add a second AA battery for a total of six months of power. The mouse is equipped with optical laser technology for accuracy, and if you want to take the mouse on the road, the receiver can be easily stowed on the bottom.
Logitech doesn’t say specifically what the sensitivity of the M600 is, but it is likely somewhere in the 800-1200 dpi range. The mouse is slated to ship this month at an MSRP of $70.
