Some sequels are a given, and they’re going to get made no matter what. You knew there was no way a new Star Wars or the third Batman movie would eve be stuck in development hell. Other movies, unfortunately, haven’t been so lucky.
We at TGD have been very excited about the prospect of another Bill and Ted movie, but lately it’s hit some bumps in the road, and Keanu Reeves has recently felt grim about the movie’s progress. He told Vanity Fair that he’s currently waiting for a script re-write, and the movie’s also looking for financing. “We don’t have a director,” he said. “We don’t’ have any money, so we’re trying to get a script. Maybe if we have a script, they will come, I don’t know.”
As Reeves continued, “I think they’ve created a story that is fun and funny and would be very surreal for me to play, so if everything comes together the right way it could be fun…Those characters in those films, they were great times to make and close to my heart and I loved those stories.”
Another beloved genre classic is Galaxy Quest, which wasn’t a box office hit, but it certainly enjoys a healthy cult following to this day, and producer Mark Johnson would still love to make another installment. As Giant Freakin Robot reports, Johnson said trying to get another Quest made is “complicated. I can’t get into it because it only gets me angry, because I’m so proud of that movie.”
Johnson even says there were plans for a Galaxy Quest TV show, which would be a great way to continue the story considering it was a faux TV show anyways. Giving us a little bit of hope, Johnson said, “We’ll see, it’s not over.” So for both Bill and Ted and Galaxy Quest, we indeed hope there will be more in the future, despite the obvious hurtles both movies have facing them.
