In the grand scheme of classic cars, you can get a DeLorean relatively cheap compared to say, a Lamborghini, or a Rolls. And now you can get your DeLorean Back to the Futureized, except it won’t take you back in time of course.
As the Hollywood Reporter tells us, people are spending up to $45,000 to get their DeLoreans customized to Back to the Future specifications. According to the Reporter, there are 6,500 DeLoreans left in the world, and with the movie coming up on its 30th anniversary in 2015, there’s been more interest in the DeLorean than ever.
If you’re the proud owner of a DeLorean, you can get your car fixed and serviced at DeLorean Motor Co in Huntington Beach, CA, and as the company’s general manager said, “Back to the Future has been a huge part of the business.”
The mechanic who builds the replicas for the company added, “Back to the Future is getting bigger and bigger, especially among kids who watched the movie in 1985 and now have enough money to own a piece of it. We’ve never advertised that we build these. It’s just been a side thing we do.”
Foxnews has reported that because of Back to the Future, the DeLorean is one of the most recognized cars in history. How funny to think a cheesy looking vehicle that looks painfully dated today could have this kind of staying power. As a source told the Orange County Register, “The car is so well known from a 90-year-old person to a 4-year old because of that movie.”
