UMC buys SiS subsidiary SiS Microelectronics

United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) on February 26 announced that it has inked an agreement with Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) to acquire SiS foundry subsidiary SiS Microelectronics Corporation (SMC), according to a company statement. SMC spun off from SiS in December 2003. The 8″ fab has capacity to process 42,000 eight” wafers per month and uses 0.25- to 0.18-micron technology.
