SGI launches Linux Workstation

High-performance computing specialist SGI (Silicon Graphics) has launched a line of Linux (news – web sites)-based visualization machines, providing the company’s cutting-edge graphics capabilities on an open platform for the first time.

SGI’s Prism line combines Itanium 2 processor technology from Intel with the Linux OS to create a system that promises to handle the most demanding visual computing tasks at an attractive price point.
