New FCC rules to allow broadband via power lines

The Federal Communications Commission has made changes to its regulations that will allow power companies to provide broadband services over electric lines. That may help make broadband access possible in rural areas and small towns were cable and DSL are not available.

For years, those living in rural areas and small towns have accepted the fact that broadband Internet access will not be an option for them. The advanced telecommunications networks and cable systems that allow broadband connections simply do not exist in such areas.
