Sony, 3M settle suit over battery IP

Sony and 3M announced that the two companies have reached a settlement agreement in a patent infringement suit that 3M had filed against Sony in March of this year. The patent covers intellectual property referring to lithium ion battery cathodes, which is now licensed to Sony and Sony Electronics, according to the announcement made today.

3M said that it believes its cathode materials containing nickel, manganese and cobalt will be “an important technology for current and next generation lithium ion batteries.”

Further details about the settlement were kept confidential.
