Presumably trying to reassure us, Google has launched a new feature allowing users to see which personal data it’s storing, and to control or delete some of it.
Google Dashboard summarizes data for each product a customer uses and provides direct links to control personal settings. Users will be able to see summaries of their email, search requests and so on in a single place.
It covers more than 20 products and services, including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Web History, Orkut, YouTube, Picasa, Talk, Reader, Alerts, and Latitude.
“The scale and level of detail of the Dashboard is unprecedented, and we’re delighted to be the first internet company to offer this — and we hope it will become the standard,” says Google.
Of course there’s a good chance that when users actually see how much Goggle is watching them, they won’t find it particularly reassuring.
Take a look at it here.
