Los Angeles (CA) – Video ads for CBS shows and Pepsi will appear in print editions of Entertainment Weekly next month.
Video screens 2.7mm thick displaying at 320×240 pixels will be powered by batteries which can be recharged from a USB connection. The technology, is supplied by LA-based Americhip and programs can be up to 40 minutes duration and are activated by turning the page.
But due to the ‘significant’ cost involved, the ads in the September 18 edition of the magazine will only appear in copies distributed in Los Angeles and New York.
Americhip has also created technology for print magazines that enables smell and taste to be simulated, presumably by licking the page. You can check out the technologies here, but those allergic to Flash animation are warned to stay away.
