San Diego (CA) – Many mobile phone companies are stressed over the decision to push out the DTV switch, possibly until June 12 – and Qualcomm is among the most stressed.
AT&T and Verizon have decided that they are both in agreement with this form of limited delay, rather than a full one year that was also proposed. However, both of these companies have a wider service offering including television in addition to their telephone offerings.
Qualcomm, on the other hand, is adamant that the delay not happen. The company has a plan to turn on 100 transmitters for their MediaFLO network in 15 different markets. This system reaches 40 million individuals and is considered a priority at Qualcomm.
A delay in the switchover to digital will be a strain in business for smaller wireless providers such as Qualcomm. For them, it’s a frustrating, hard battle they’re facing.
