Hsinchu City (Taiwan) – Today, Acer introduced a couple of new notebook PCs for corporate and small-to-medium business individuals looking for mobile work solutions. These are the TravelMate 6593 and TravelMate 6493, priced starting at around $1,500 and $1,100, respectively.
Acer has equipped both models with Intel’s Centrino 2 CPUs as well as an Intel graphics media accelerator. The 6593 sports a 15.4-inch display, while the 6493 enjoys its 14.1-inch display. Both are WXGA TFT LCDs with 1280 x 800 resolution. They also offer simultaneous multi-window viewing via an Acer application.
Acer also has built into these business laptops a hot-swappable drive bay which offers a a choice of an extra hard disk, a second battery or an optical drive. Both can make use of up to 4 GB of DDR3 800/1033 MHz memory and come with a built-in Web cam and video conferencing software for video chats with others.
Also being mentioned by Acer were its ezDock II and ezDock II+ docking stations, which are designed to fit all TravelMate form factors and models. These docks allow connections to multiple devices and can be inserted or removed without the PCs needing to be rebooted.
