An article at HotHardware gives some more information as to the reasoning behind Nvidia’s recent attempts to force Intel to open up the Atom platform.
Nvidia’s GeForce 9400M would give netbooks a “much needed performance boost for many applications, allowing them to offer much of the functionality of a full-sized PC,” according to Devin Pastoor at HotHardware.
The article implies Intel is not helping the industry by keeping the Atom architecture closed. And Nvidia is resigned to getting their products onto the market by going around Intel directly to the makers, forcing interest from multiple sides against Intel. Could prove interesting.
