JVC unveils high-definition LED billboard in Times Square

New York (NY) – JVC said it now runs the first true 720p high definition display in New York’s Times Square. The new billboard features three LED displays – the main screen and two tickers, including one that encircles a globe.

Located at the northeast corner of Broadway and 43rd Street since 1979,  the new 16:9 display features a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixel at 60 fps, powered through 1,266,400 LEDs that are integrated in 1007 LED modules. The size of the main display is 19 by 34 feet. It weighs 12,500 lbs, JVC said.

The main ticker display (3.5 x 71 ft) has a resolution of 100 x 2014 pixels, while the globe ticker runs (3.5 x 45 ft) at 100 x 1344.

JVC said that it needed 3014 ft of data cables, 2650 ft of power cables and 1250 ft of steel tubing to complete the new display.
