Shanghai (China) – The Chinese governments wants to get a handle on increasing traffic by encouraging commuters to ditch their cars for a day. On Saturday September 22nd, people will voluntarily ride mass transit systems like subways and buses. Some cities, like Shanghai, will even ban private cars from inner city zones. Cities will add more frequent bus service on Saturday to help people get to their destinations.
The “No Car Day” will be held in tandem with a world-wide voluntary ban on cars for a day. China is also starting a week-long campaign that will try to boost mass-transit ridership.
