Redmond (WA) – The game that spawned a sequel, a pinball game, and two remakes, is now available through the Wii’s digital store, as Super Mario World, the title that introduced Yoshi, has been added to the Virtual Console, alongside a Sega Genesis and a TurboGrafx-16 game.
Today’s unveiling of Super Mario World to the VC marks the fourth official release of the title since its original debut for the Super NES in 1991. Super Mario Bros 2 and 3 remain the two original platform titles still awaiting a presence on the Wii.
Also released today are Vigilante, a beat-em-up game from the TurboGrafx-16, and Genesis title Gain Ground, which is a futuristic war simulation game. Vigilante downloads for 600 Wii points ($6), with Gain Ground and Super Mario World available for 800 Wii points ($8) each.
