Bedminster (NJ) – Further attaching itself to the idea of watching user videos on mobile phones, Verizon today announced a deal with Revver, just a day after confirming a similar partnership with Youtube.
The mobile version of Revver, like Youtube, is set to launch early next month, and will be part of the V Cast entertainment channel. Users who subscribe to the $15/month mobile media service will have access to unlimited viewing of Revver videos.
Revver, which incentivizes uploaders by sharing the ad revenue with them, agreed to give Verizon the exclusive rights to the mobile version of the platform, similar to the deal with Youtube. Reportedly, Revver videos viewed on V Cast will be ad-free. Normally, a sponsored ad is shown at the end of every streamed video.
Financial terms of the deal went undisclosed. The strong commitment to mobile user video content shows that Verizon has a lot of stock in the idea, even though mobile video has not yet reached a high level of penetration among cell phone owners.
