Atlanta (GA) – Porsche Cars of North America, along with XM Satellite Radio, announced today a “long-term agreement” to exclusively install XM radios in new Porsche models, beginning in 2007.
Factory-installed radios will be continue to be standard on the Cayenne line of cars as well as future rollout to new models. Under the agreement, beginning in 2007, XM will be the only satellite radios to be installed in Porsche cars.
“XM has the technology and content that is consistent with Porsche’s commitment to providing our customers the best possible driving experience. We are very pleased to be expanding our partnership with XM,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Porsche’s president and CEO.
Previously, Porsche models offered both Sirius and XM radios as a factory installed option. The auto maker first announced plans to incorporate satellite radios in their cars in September 2001, making it one of the first car companies to do so.
Porsche owners will also be able to tap into advanced XM technology, including NavTraffic tral-time traffic data. Anyone who purchases a new Porsche will receive a free three-month subscription to XM radio.
