Sony introduced a 42″ plasma television set that is meant for professionals and the corporate boardroom. The FWD-42PX2 has a 10000:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 450 cd/m2, which according to Sony is, “ideal for digital signage at a mall or office lobby”.
The television has a DVI-HDCP and RS-232 connector, which lets it function as part of a video wall. These “walls” are typically used in trade shows and consist of several televisions hooked together with an RS-232-based switch. In addition to the high contrast ratio, the television has picture-in-picture and optional network connectivity.
The FWD-42PX2 will be available in April for $2400.
