D-Link introduces Wi-Fi flip-phone

D-Link’s new DPH-540 wireless phone looks like the old style Motorola cellular phones, but works with Wi-Fi networks, insead of cell-phone towers. The new phone works like a normal phone except that it connects to VoIP services to make calls. Calls are routed through either 802.11b or g networks and are encrypted through WPA PSK (pre shared key).

The phone weighs around 115 grams and has a backlit display. D-Link promises that it will have an indoor range of 20 to 50 meters and an outdoor range of up to 250 meters. The DPH-540 will be available in the summer for about $300.
