D-Link offers new security appliances for SMBs

D-Link today added three new models to its “NetDefend” series of security appliances that promise to bring “enterprise-level” protection to SMB networks. The devices come preinstalled with a software package from CheckPoint, including Firewall and VPN applications.

The NetDefend’s primary purpose is to defend a network from network intrusions and attacks, but also enable a company to organize network traffic and distribute “proper usage of Internet resources, such as instant messaging, Peer-to-Peer file sharing and File Transfer Protocol.” The new models DFL-CPG310 and DFL-CP310 promise to block viruses at the gateway before they enter a network.

Other features of the security appliances include dual-WAN ports for failover support. A who-is utility that identifies suspected attackers, built-in traffic monitoring, WLAN and LAN traffic isolation, WPA2 encryption and authorization mechanisms, as well as a built-in print server.

DFL-CPG310 and DFL-CP310 are scheduled to ship this quarter. Pricing ist set at $500 and $320.
