Sprint records 1 million music downloads, iTunes nearing 1 billion

Sprint announced that downloads of music files from its Sprint Music Store have topped one million songs. The music store, which was launched on 24 Oct. 2005, currently offers about 320,000 for download from various publishers including via EMI, Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal Music.

Meanwhile, Apple is counting down to 1 billion downloads from its iTunes service. ITunes recorded about 979 million downloads so far and currently shows a pace of about 2.5 million downloads per day, which indicates that Apple may hit its next milestone sometime next week.

And since we are talking about countdowns, there is another much discussed celebration coming up during the next weeks: Mozilla recently said that more than 150 million people have downloaded the Mozilla browser, but restated its numbers after some the organization found that it counted 20 million updates as new downloads. The Firefox download counter currently shows not quite 145 million downloads.
