Kenwood Technologies Inc.has introduced the second in its family of high-performance drives based on Zen Research’s TrueX technology.
The company says its 52X CD-ROM drive is unlike other so-called 48X “Max” CD-ROM drives that reach top performance only on the outermost tracks of the disk. TrueX technology allows the CD-ROM drive to deliver a typical transfer rate ranging from 6750 kbps to 7800 kbps across the entire disk.
Conventional “Max” CD-ROM drives perform at only 19X on the innermost tracks, achieving 48X performance only on the outermost tracks. Zen’s TrueX technology enables the drive to read multiple tracks simultaneously, dramatically increasing the drive’s data transfer rate without increasing its rate of rotation.
The 52X TrueX CD-ROM drive is currently available at a suggested retail price of $129.95 through CompUSA, Ingram Micro and other major distribution channels. Additional information about Kenwood Technologies is available online at http://www.kenwoodtech.com.
