Japan’s biggest software and peripherals wholesaler, Softbank, has started selling PC clones on a direct-order basis.

The company is selling the PCs for 20 percent to 30 percent less than comparable brand-name models, a Softbank spokesman said. The orders are being fulfiulled by California-based Ingram Micro, the world’s largest PC distributor,

A unit of office equipment manufacturer Ricoh will provide maintenance through its nationwide service network.
