Intel Corp. formally introduced its Pentium III processor, backed by a cast of hundreds of PC makers and promises of a Pentium-powered internet experience filled with rich audio, video, animations and 3D graphics.
In March, Intel will launch the WebOutfitter service to provide Pentium III processor owners with access to eye- and ear-catching content, tools and tips designed to maximize their internet experience while showing off the power of their new 450MHz and 500MHz CPUs. A 550MHz version will be available in second quarter 1999.
Among the PC makers that rolled out Pentium III-based products for the Intel announcement were Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Micron, and NEC.
