300GL is IBM's smallest PC yet

IBM plans to tread more lightly on users’ desktops, with the smallest footprint of any commercial PC it has shipped to date.

Available in both general purpose and Small Business Series models, the new IBM PC 300GL chassis also features tool-less cover removal, swivel hinges for easy maintenance of internal parts, and an outside sliding door that covers the floppy and CD drives when not in use.

Based on Intel’s new 810 core chipset and up to 500MHz Celerons, IBM preloads either Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 98. Standard models feature up to 20.4 hard drives and 64MB of SDRAM.

Options include a 6X Internal IDE DVD-ROM drive, a 10/100 Ethernet adapter, a 64MB 100MHz non-parity SDRAM DIMM, and a 17″ monitor.

Pricing starts at $849. Additional details are available at www.ibm.com/pc.
